SENIOR CIVIL ENGINEER

CURRENT AND FUTURE VACANCIES

The City of Vallejo is recruiting to fill one (1) vacancy for the position of Senior Civil Engineer in the Department of Public Works, within the Traffic Branch of the Engineering Division. The Register of Eligibles list created from this recruitment will be used to fill this vacancy and additional vacancies throughout both the Department of Public Works Water Division and Engineering Division for at least one (1) year.

THE POSITIONS

The Senior Civil Engineer in the Traffic Branch oversees all issues related to traffic and transportation within the City. Employees in this position track and apply appropriate grant opportunities; review development and permit projects for traffic impacts, develop conditions to alleviate impacts on the surrounding neighborhoods. Senior Civil Engineers attend transportations related committees, conduct public outreach, filter participation requests and respond to request from the public regarding all traffic issues. Senior Civil Engineers oversee capital projects which are primarily traffic projects.

Other Senior Civil Engineers in the Public Works Department are responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising professional and technical engineering operations for an assigned section such as current development, water, traffic, or capital improvement; overseeing the preparation of complex engineering designs, plans, specifications, and reports; and managing assigned construction projects.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Experience: Ten (10) years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering experience including five (5) years at a level comparable to the Associate Civil Engineer classification with the City of Vallejo. In addition, there should be three (3) years of lead supervisory or project management responsibility. A Master's Degree may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.

Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from and accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.

Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a current and valid Certificate of Registration as a professional engineer issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. (Applicants please attach a copy of your Professional Engineers License). In addition, the Traffic Section Senior Civil Engineer position shall possess a current and valid Certificate of Registration as a Traffic Engineer issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.

Desirable Qualifications: For positions assigned within the Traffic Branch, a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certificate issued by the Transportation Professional Certification Board is desirable. For positions assigned within the Water Division, civil, mechanical, or design engineering experience within a water or wastewater agency is desirable.

ASSOCIATE ENGINEER / ASSOCIATE (CIVIL) ENGINEER

CURRENT AND FUTURE VACANCIES

The City of Vallejo is recruiting to fill three (3) vacancies for the position of Associate Engineer/Associate (Civil) Engineer in the Department of Public Works, one (1) in the Engineering Branch of the Water Division and two (2) in the Current Development Branch of the Engineering Division. These positions can be filled by applicants who hold the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate (Associate Engineer), or who have the exemption, and/or by candidates registered as a Professional Engineer with the State of California (Associate Civil Engineer). The Register of Eligibles list created from this recruitment will be used to fill these vacancies and additional vacancies throughout both the Department of Public Works Water Division and Engineering Division for at least one (1) year.

THE POSITIONS

Positions assigned to the Engineering Branch of the Water Division performs tasks such as determining the layout and sizing of subdivision water systems, conducting studies on domestic, industrial, and municipal water use, and designing and detailing structures and distribution systems.

Positions assigned to the Current Development Branch of the Engineering Division review and process all projects requiring City review and approval. Employees in this position track individual conditions of approval and ensure compliance prior to the next phase of the project starting, working closely with other City departments to ensure thorough and timely review of projects.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Experience: Four (4) years of increasingly responsible civil engineering experience. Four (4) years of mechanical engineering experience can substitute for the civil engineering experience for positions within the Water Division.

Training: Equivalent to a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field. Mechanical engineering is considered a related field for positions with the Water Division.

Licenses and Certificates: Possession of an Engineer in Training Certificate or meets the exemption requirement to pass the Engineer in Training as a prerequisite for the professional exam as provided for in the Professional Engineers Act and by the Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

Desirable Qualifications: Certification as a Professional Civil Engineer is desirable. For positions assigned within the Water Division, certification as a Professional Civil Engineer or Professional Mechanical Engineer is desirable. For water positions, civil, mechanical, or design engineering experience within a water or waste water agency is desirable.
